2. First Love

Most of us are familiar with what may be described as “first love” and many of us also know what it means to abandon the first love we once had. The church should be based on the first love for God, and we should be driven by loyalty to that love. Any sliding down on that love is a cause for repentance. Revelation 2:1-7 – to the church in Ephesus – “But I have this against you, that you have left your first love. Therefore, remember from where you have fallen, and repent, and do the deeds you did at first; or else I am coming to you and I will remove your lampstand from its place—unless you repent”. (v4-5).

3. Expectation and Possibility of Perfection

God’s expectation of perfection, ultimately, is in love – not in some religious activity. The warning in v4-5 is dire, but as always, there is hope and assurance: “To the one who overcomes, I will grant to eat from the tree of life, which is in the Paradise of God.” (v7).
